MAMARONECK, N.Y. - Seniors Jacob Forsyth and Ethan Bernstein have played the trumpet together for seven years. Wednesday, they gave one final performance together at Mamaroneck High School’s graduation.

"It was difficult," said  Bernstein, who performed as part of the jazz band. "Every note that I played felt like it was going to be the last note I would ever play."

Before the 6 p.m. proceedings began on the baseball field, the two friends joked with each other and other band members from behind the stage. After their electric performance of Maynard Ferguson's "Fireshaker," their jovial mood had changed.

"I'd like to continue playing in college, but it will never be the same," said Bernstein, who will attend the University of San Diego in the fall.

Forsyth will attend Boston College.
