The 13-year-old stayed in the top spot for the second week in a row after several competitors moved around on the leader board.

CeCe Frey, who previously faced elimination twice, made No. 5, while groups Fifth Harmony and Emblem3 followed in fourth and third places respectively.

Country singer Tate Stevens held onto the second spot for the second week, while R&B singer Paige Thomas was sent home for receiving the least votes.

Tattooed soul crooner Vino Alan dropped from third to seventh place and was eliminated by judges after a face-off with Sonenclar’s fellow "Teen" group member, Diamond White.

Sonenclar, who placed in the top two throughout the competition, was determined to hang on to her No. 1 spot Wednesday night.

"This song is so well-known that it's going to be a challenge to make it my own," she said. "Every week the competition gets more and more intense. So I have to give everything I have so that I can stay in the top spot."

Judges Simon Cowell and Demi Lovato were both impressed with her rendition of the Adele chart-topper the previous night. L.A. Reid called Sonenclar "insanely talented" but said that it wasn’t her best performance.

However, viewers had the final say.

"I’m so excited," Sonenclar said after being placed at No. 1. "Thank you to everyone who voted. Just thank you, I feel amazing."

The competition will get steep as only six acts remain. Sonenclar has previously said to "X Factor" that she’s not ready to go back to the eighth grade at Rye Neck High School. Lucky for her, she doesn't have to just yet.

"X Factor" returns next Wednesday at 8 p.m., when Sonenclar and five other performers will face off as part of the top six.
