MAMARONECK, N.Y. – Carly Rose Sonenclar, the 13-year-old "X Factor" contestant from Mamaroneck, will return to the Fox TV show Wednesday night after snagging the No. 1 spot in viewer votes last Thursday.
She and seven other contestants will perform No. 1 chart singles, starting at 8 p.m.
Sonenclar bumped country singer Tate Stevens from the top spot last week after singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Judge Simon Cowell called it one of the best renditions of the song that he’d ever heard.
The Rye Neck Middle School student is vying for a $5 million recording contract with Sony Music.
One of the youngest acts on "X Factor" this season, Sonenclar is up against the "Over 25s," country singer Stevens and soul crooner Vino Alan, who were in the No. 2 and 3 spots respectively, "Groups," boy band Emblem3 and girl quintet Fifth Harmony, "Young Adults," small-town Illinois native CeCe Frey and R&B/pop songstress Paige Thomas, and lastly, “Teen” 13-year-old Diamond White.
Sonenclar has said that, though she may come off as quiet in person, when she takes the stage, something entirely different happens.
"I’m kind of like soft-spoken, but when I sing, I kind of forget about that," she said in an interview with "X Factor" last month. "I’m only 13, but I’ve been working toward this moment ever since I could sing, which was when I was about two years old."
Voting results and eliminations will be announced Thursday night on "X Factor."
