A tree dedication was held at 111 Lockwood Avenue on Friday for the lifelong New Rochelle resident, who “was an integral and beloved member of his community who remained active until the time of his passing,” officials said.

City Historian Barbara Davis offered words of remembrance at the ceremony, which included members of the New Rochelle Housing Authority, New Rochelle Police Department, Police Association of New Rochelle, VFW Post 439 and 8 and the United Veterans Memorial and Patriotic Association of New Rochelle.

Born in New Rochelle on March 26, 1915, Moye served in the U.S. Army and reached the rank of Private First Class.

Following the war, became involved with VFW Post 2882 in New Rochelle and served as the chapter's commander, Westchester County commander and district chaplain.

Moye received an honorary high school diploma from New Rochelle High School at the age of 100 and was inducted into the New York State Senate Veteran's Hall of Fame in 2014.
