Valerie Moore O’Keeffe, the 2017 Grand Marshal, will be honored at this annual Sash Presentation.  O’Keeffe is known for her 10 years as Town Supervisor in Mamaroneck, as well as her service as the current chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center.

O’Keeffe's primary duty as grand marshal is to represent the Parade Committee and Irish Americans in the area, and lead the parade down Mamaroneck Ave.

O’Keeffe follows in the footsteps of past grand marshals Jim Killoran, executive director, Habitat for Humanity of Westchester; Jim Hynes, principal, Hynes Capital Resources; Kevin Plunkett, Deputy Westchester County Executive; Robert McCooey, senior VP, NASDAQ; and Jim Sullivan, president, Pearl Restaurant Group.

The Sound Shore St. Patrick’s Day Parade began in 2012 to promote and celebrate Irish heritage in the community, and to provide an honorable occasion for families and friends, according to a release from the parade committee.

Even more important is the parade organization’s commitment to education by raising money for college scholarships, the release said. Applications are sent to local high schools every year. The Parade Committee looks forward to continuing this important tradition, having awarded $17,500 in college scholarships since 2013.

The Parade Committee invites Sound Shore citizens to join them in celebrating O’Keeffe while helping raise vital scholarship funds.

For additional information on how to purchase tickets to the event, or to make a donation to the 2017 Sound Shore Parade Scholarship Fund, visit the Sound Shore St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee official website at www.SoundShoreParade.com.

The parade will take place on Sunday, March 19, from 1:30 - 4 p.m.
