Gadsden and three members of the St. Thomas congregation will be offering ashes to anybody who desires them.
“We’re offering ashes outside the church to remind people that need, humility and healing shouldn’t be confined to a church building," Gadsden said in a statement. "Throughout the day, we will be reminded of our need for God and of God’s call to us.”
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, which prepares Christians for the celebration of Easter, Sunday April 5.
St. Thomas Chapel, next to Heathcote Hall, also will have services Ash Wednesday at 6 a.m., noon and 7:30 p.m.
St. Thomas is at 168 W. Boston Post Road,The Mamaroneck.
