MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- One lane on either side of Mamaroneck Avenue off Old White Plains Road was blocked Wednesday afternoon as the sidewalk improvements project nears completion, according to Village Manager Richard Slingerland.
"If anything, they're ahead of schedule," said Slingerland, who visited the site Wednesday to check the progress of PCI, the construction company contracted by the Village of Mamaroneck. "They expect to finish by Sept. 1."
Wednesday, PCI, based in Mt. Vernon, began trenching the sidewalk between Waverly Avenue up to the gas station on the corner of Mamaroneck and Hoyt avenues, which is the last leg of the project.
Construction on the Old White Plains Road-side of Mamaroneck Avenue from Waverly Avenue to Grand Street was finished in mid-July, at which point they moved to the other side of Mamaroneck Avenue between Columbus Park and Jefferson Avenue.
PCI will install decorative concrete strips to match those adorning the old sidewalks, said Brian Jendras, PCI superintendent of the sidewalk improvements project.
