Award Winning Author Coming To Larchmont

LARCHMONT, N.Y. – Author Patricia McCormick is coming to The Voracious Reader in Larchmont on Friday, in partnership with Westchester Chapter of Room to Read for a book reading and signing.

McCormick, who is an award-winning teen-literature author, will be at the book store, 1997 Palmer Avenue, at 6:30 p.m.

McCormick will be reading from her novel, “Never Fall Down,” which is based on the real-life story of 11-year old boy soldier Arn Chorn-Pond, who survived war by playing music. The book is set in Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s.

McCormick also has written acclaimed books such as “Cut,” “My Brother’s Keeper,” “Purple Heart,” and was a National Book Award finalist in 2007 for “Sold.”

Francine Lucidon, the owner of The Voracious Reader, decided to pair McCormick with Room to Read because she said McCormick is “on the leading edge of bringing harsh facts of the world to young people and motivating them to act.”

She also said that Room to Read is “the gold standard for non-profit organizations” in its record and work building literacy skills and supporting girls education in the developing world.”

The Westchester Chapter of Room to Read was started in 2010 and has raised awareness and money through different community events, according to a news release.

Ten percent of the proceeds from the books sold Friday night will be donated to Room to Read.

For more information call the The Voracious Reader at 914-630-4581.
