MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Odelya Vivolo goes to Cafe Mozart for the food, but on Thursdays during the summer, she comes to hear Third Stone play live while eating at a table set up in the parking spaces in front of the restaurant.
"It's fantastic," said Vivolo, who ate at Cafe Mozart Thursday night with six of her closest friends and family. "I always come here when this band is playing."
On any given Thursday night after 7 p.m. the corner of Mamaroneck Avenue and Palmer Avenue is buzzing with residents stopping to listen to the live band and ask why people are sitting at tables in the street.
Saidur Dawn, the owner of Cafe Mozart, acquired a permit five years ago to shut down parking in the four spaces directly in front of his restaurant along Mamaroneck Avenue on Thursdays after 6 p.m. between the last week of May and the last week of October. During that time, he has extra tables set up in the parking area for his customers.
Dawn has different bands come throughout the five months, but Third Stone is a regular.
"We always come down here when he plays," said Dianne McLeer, whose husband Eugene has played with Third Stone for 14 years. "It's something you can bring the kids to."
McLeer's two children enjoyed ice cream sundaes while their dad performed cover songs for the growing crowd. Unfortunately, their youngest dripped some chocolate on his pants. As the night goes on, the crowds grow with both customers and bystanders.
"I had a dream to give Mamaroneck that Manhattan look," said Dawn, who can be seen waving his hands in the air to inspire, often successfully, customers to get up and dance. "It brings the culture of food and music together."
