Coico, whose resignation became effective immediately, did not provide an explanation for her decision, but the Times had published a report just a day prior questioning how she and her administration handled more than $150,000 of personal expenses, according to the Times.

Mary Driscoll, City College’s interim provost, will serve as a temporary replacement until the institution’s board of trustees can appoint an interim president, according to the Times, which reported that that meeting is scheduled for Oct. 26.

The Times, in its investigation, questioned whether Coico’s expenses had been accurately recorded or whether they had been postdated, according to The Times, which reported that Coico is under federal investigation by authorities interested in her finances and her use of federal research grants.
