Hilde Friderichs created Circles of Peace to promote healing and encourage the Sound Shore community to live life more mindful of each other. The Mother's Day event drew about 40 people.
On Sunday, the mother of two will lead the installation of a 70-foot long collage of 39 portraits of local men, women and children from the Circles of Peace event on the Westchester Department of Environmental Facilities wall at the entrance to Harbor Island Park.
“Circle Art is an outgrowth of our Mothers Day Circle, and its intention is to remind our community that we are one human family, and also that by just being peaceful ourselves, we can serve as an instrument of peace in this world,” Friderichs said.
The 39 black-and-white portraits, each four-in-a-half by three feet, will surround drawings made by Friderichs' children. Those drawings will make a six-foot in diameter peace sign at the center of the 70-foot photo-pictorial installation. Parisian street artist JR has made Circle Art part of his ongoing "Inside Out Project". Similar to Circle Art, JR makes large-formate street "pastings" that give “everyone the opportunity to share their portrait and a statement of what they stand for, with the world.”
“I am so inspired by how this movement has maintained momentum, from our Mother’s Day gathering to the Circle Art project, to our next gathering on Father’s Day,” said Friderichs
The Circle Art installation will be on display from the beginning of June through the end of July.
