Con Edison Gives Larchmont Its Regular Checkup

LARCHMONT, N.Y. - Northbound traffic on Palmer Avenue is backed-up as Con Edison sections off one lane to perform their regular transformer inspection Thursday.

Michael Oliva, a Con Edison distribution splicer, estimated that the crew would complete their inspection by 3 p.m. On Thursday morning, they opened a manhole on the corner of Palmer Avenue and Chatsworth Avenue to check the condition of the transformer. Con Edison checks transformers every five years, Oliva said.

"We test the switch down there to make sure everything is working," said Oliva, who added that they were pumping out the drain water that had accumalted in the area of the transformer since their last inspection.

Con Edison had previously examined and fixed the gas main found on the same corner June 29 due to a leak, but Oliva said Thursday's inspection was unrelated.
