LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Residents may hear "Timber" from time to time over the next few weeks, while Con Edison crews trim trees in Larchmont.
Con Edison contracts Lewis Tree Service to cut back trees that are too close to overhead power lines, which is a part of their year-round maintenance effort.
Crewmembers will trim trees so that they are either 10 feet underneath or to the side, or 15 feet above the power lines.
"Overgrown and fallen tree limbs are the leading cause of power outages during storms," according to the Con Edison website. "Con Edison's tree maintenance program helps ensure safe, reliable service for you and your neighbors by carefully trimming branches that may interfere with power lines."
Thursday, crews were working on Boston Post Road near Larchmont Avenue, Locust Avenue near Bronson Avenue and Pine Brook Drive, among others.
