MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Construction is blocking two lanes along a small section of Route 1 near the intersection of Boston Post Road and Mt. Pleasant Avenue Monday.
The road work, which began Sept. 26, is part of a Con Edison project that will take a nearly 100-year-old low pressure gas main out of service. The gas main currently supplies three businesses, which will be hooked up to a high-pressure gas main that runs parallel along Route 1.
Con Edison contracted Persico, a Mt. Vernon-based contracting company, to trench the three areas where the Toy Box, Pace BMW and Home Sweet Home Properties' service lines connect to the old 12-inch cast iron main.
Tuesday, Con Edison will begin transferring the three service lines to the 20-inch steel main, which Tim Coyle, a Persico foreman, said is about 30 years old.
