MAMARONECK, N.Y. ‒ Manuela Morgado of Mamaroneck appeared in Westchester County Court Thursday to conference with the judge and provide a DNA sample.
Morgado is charged with second-degree murder in the death of her 4 year old son, Jason "Jake" Reish, this past Oct. 1.
Lawyers met with Judge Lester Adler in his chambers Thursday morning in the White Plains courthouse while waiting for Morgado to arrive. She is being held at the Westchester County jail. During the conference, Morgado's lawyer opposed the prosecution's application to take a DNA sample. Adler said he would make a ruling on that at a future date.
Jason's father, Dr. Tim Reish of Briarcliff, sat in the courtroom, wiping away tears as the lawyers met in private.
When Morgado showed up, the assistant district attorney prosecuting the case submitted additional materials from the Medical Examiner's Office. They included four toxicology reports. However, the District Attorney's office would not comment on case evidence.
Morgado is due back in court March 21.
