MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Mamaroneck's beachgoers and boaters should stay on dry land, warns the Westchester County Health Department, who discovered about 162,000 gallons of untreated sewage entered the Long Island Sound Monday night, according to a press release.
The Department of Health discovered the discharge from a failed West Basin Pump Station next to Harbor Island Park, which the Department of Environmental Facilities fixed Tuesday morning.
The county health department has issed an advisory for Mamaroneck and recommended beaches stay closed and people avoid any contact with the water at the following location:
Harbor Island Park Beach
Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club
Shore Acres Club
Beach Point Club
Orienta Beach Club
Drecktor Boat Yard
Brewer Post Road Boat Yard Marina
Mamaroneck Municipal Marina
Nichols Yacht Yard
Mamaroneck Boat and Motors
McMichael's Boat Yard
The county health department will decide whether it is safe to open beaches and lift the advisory once they receive the results of the water samples tested Tuesday.
