MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Summer storms and wind are being cited as the reason several power lines were knocked down in Mamaroneck early Tuesday, rupturing gas lines and setting several cars on fire early.
ABC 7 reports firefighters and emergency personnel are currently responding while Con Edison handles the electricity. More than 500 households are currently without power as a result.
The incident occurred on Mamaroneck Avenue and Winfield Avenue around 1 a.m.
The 13,000 volt wires heated up the ground enough to spark off the gas line and cause the fire, which has completely destroyed two cars and damaged a third.
The cause of the fire is still under further investigation.
