Evacuation Center Closes; Nearly All Of Larchmont Without Power

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – The evacuation center at Mamaroneck High School closed at 2 p.m. Tuesday, but there are still approximately 65 to 70 roads closed as of 6 p.m., with more than half of the residents in Mamaroneck town and village and the village of Larchmont without power, Town Administrator Stephen Altieri said.

The evacuation center, which opened Sunday afternoon, serviced more than 60 people at the height of the storm. Tuesday morning, 38 people remained at the shelter, all of whom have since left with a place to go, Altieri said.

There are 4,662 Con Edison customers without power in the Village of Mamaroneck, 3,521 in the Town of Mamaroneck and 1,595 in Larchmont as of 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Con Edison outage map. “The level of damage is far more extreme than last year,” Altieri said. “The two storms aren’t even comparable.”

The town cancelled recycling pick-up this week, but garbage collection will resume Wednesday. Garbage collection in the Village of Mamaroneck and Larchmont were also suspended through Tuesday.

Both the Town Center in the Town of Mamaroneck and Larchmont Village Hall are closed Tuesday due to power outages from the storm.
