MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- George Stewart spent part of his Columbus Day at Harbor Island Park taking in the sights along the boat yard with his son Javan and two friends, who had the day off from school for the holiday.
The small group also kicked a soccer ball around on the field, where Stewart has spent a lot of time after work at the Stop and Shop on 1326 Boston Post Rd. Although his son isn't as big a fan of the sport, Javan, 17, enjoyed his day off from school all the same.
"It's a fun and healthy activity," Javan said.
Like the Stewarts, Simo Ahman shared some quality time with his son Ryan, 5, on the soccer field.
"This is probably the last best day of the year," said Ahman, as Ryan scored a second goal on his father.
Just minutes earlier, the kindergartener at Mamaroneck Avenue School in White Plains yelled in frustration, "When am I going to score a goal?" Ahman, a White Plains resident, told him to take a step closer, allowing him to dribble one through his legs for the goal.
The high on Columbus Day was 82 degrees. Tuesday's high is expected to be 75 degrees with winds between six and nine miles per hour. Tuesday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 58. There is a chance of rain forecast up until Saturday, which will be mostly sunny with a high near 66. The forecast for Sunday's high is 64.
