Five Questions: Santoro Runs for Re-election

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- The Daily Mamaroneck will be compiling candidate profiles before the Nov. 8 elections. Each candidate was asked the same questions .

Louis Santoro, 54, is running for re-election as Village Trustee on the Republican, Independence and Conservative ballot lines. His opponent is Scott Dufault (D). The life-long village resident lives on Palmer Terrace and worked for the Westchester Joint Water Works as a water treatment plant operator for 21 years. He retired in 2007, but remains an active member of the Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department, which he joined in 1977. He served as chief from 1992 to 1994. He has been a Little League Baseball and soccer coach for eight years each.

Why would you be a good representative in the coming election:

I feel the past two years on the Village Board has given me the insight and experience to continue moving the Village of Mamaroneck forward. Listening to the residents and acting instead of reacting has been a very strong point in my quest to make Mamaroneck the best it can be. If elected, what are the three biggest goals you'd work to accomplish?

Lowering the tax rate. In 2010 , my first year on the Village of Mamaroneck Board we had a tax increase of 0.35 percent, one of the lowest in village history.I would like to try to continue that.Continuing Flood Mitigation. Also in 2010, it was the first time in over 30 years that the village went into the rivers to dredge. This is a start in a very large process to help the flooding. We budgeted almost $100,000 in the 2011 budget to continue this process.Looking outside the box to bring in revenue to the Village of Mamaroneck to help off set any tax increase. Has the local government made any mistakes or had any oversights that you'd try to avoid? How? No one is perfect, mistakes are made. Hopefully they can be minimized and have no costly effects, something we all are striving for. What specifically makes you different from your opponent? First of all I don't know my opponent. He did introduce himself to me at the one Board of Trustees meeting he attended. I have not seen him since. When I decided to run for my position in 2009, I attended every meeting, work session, land use board meeting to get a feel for the position. My related experience speaks for itself. I have been involved in the Village of Mamaroneck community my entire life, unlike my opponent. What is the best part of Mamaroneck? The residents are by far the best part of Mamaroneck. You have all walks of life right here in the village, from the children, teens, young adults, adults and seniors. Many different nationalities come into play here that makes the village very unique. Living here my whole life I have seen what Mamaroneck really is, the best place to live. How can the voters get in touch with you?
