Garbage Pick-Up Changes for 8 Mamaroneck Streets

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- The garbage pick-up days for certain streets in the Village of Mamaroneck have changed to even the workload for collection crews.

If you live on one of the following eight streets, your garbage pick-up day has changed from Monday and Thursday to Tuesday and Friday:

  • New Street
  • Elliot Avenue
  • Ralph Avenue
  • North Barry Avenue
  • Monsignor Goodwine Avenue
  • Wagner Avenue
  • Frank Avenue
  • Gertrude Avenue

Beginning Jan. 3, the village eliminated one garbage route to save money. The cut didn't reduce services, as residents continue to receive twice-a-week pick-up and once-a-week recycling, but did alter collection routes.

"One of the things we noticed was a couple of the routes were picking up heavier loads," Dan Sarnoff, assistant village manager said. "So, what we decided to do was make several small changes, whereby trucks that were lighter are now picking up some more garbage and those heavier trucks are picking up a little less garbage.

These changes went into effect Monday, and the Department of Public Works notified each homeowner beforehand.

"It's evening out the amount of work that each crew is doing," Sarnoff said.
