MAMARONECK, N.Y. – With the summer driving season finally before us, motorists in Mamaroneck and Larchmont are getting ready for their busy Memorial Day weekend may notice that prices at the pump are on the rise.
According to AAA, drivers in New York were paying an average of $3.76 per regular gallon, among the most in the country. Nationally, prices are sitting at an average of $3.66 per gallon, up 15 cent from a month ago, but down two cents from one year prior.
Robert Sinclair, the spokesperson for AAA New York predicted that this spike would have happened earlier. Refineries switched to the more expensive, eco-friendly summer blend of gasoline back in March.
“We expected that it would happen earlier, but we knew that prices would jump as we approached the summer season,” he said. “Things are going to get very hair during the driving season.”
Locally, according to GasBuddy.com, the cheapest regular gas in Mamaroneck and Larchmont can be found at Citgo on 711 Fenimore Road for $3.71 per gallon.
