Harrison HS Mourns Death Of Varsity Baseball Player Andrew Gurgitano

HARRISON, N.Y. -- The Harrison community is mourning the sudden loss of high school student Andrew Gurgitano.

The 16-year-old Gurgitano died suddenly at home on Saturday. The cause of death was a rare spontaneous stroke, according to the Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office, LoHud.com reported.

Gurgitano was described as a popular student-athlete who was a left-handed pitcher who made the Huskies' varsity baseball team as a sophomore this past spring.

He is survived by his parents, Sergio "Fabian" and Susan Gurgitano, sisters, Marissa Anne and Ava Nicole, grandparents Luis and Maria Gurgitano and Domenica Dunn and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

Calling hours are scheduled for Wednesday at the Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home in on 767 East Boston Post Road in Mamaroneck from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Funeral mass will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in West Harrison, followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery.
