NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - All 86 mentors and mentees from " Her Honor Mentoring " program prepared traditional Puerto Rican dishes at Don Coqui for their annual holiday party Monday.
Students from five Westchester high schools, including Mamaroneck High School, are selected for the program, which pairs them with local businesswomen in a position of power.
Maria Valente, owner of Chocolations on 607 E Boston Post Road has been one of the Mamaroneck mentors since "Her Honor Mentoring" was established in 2006 by Nicole Sheindlin, whose mother is Judge Judy.
Valente's mentee, Brianna White, dreams of owning her own bakery one day. Sheindlin works with the schools each year to place students in a field of their interest.
All 86 mentors and mentees get together three time a year, including the holiday party. They also meet at the beginning and end of the school year at Larchmont Shore Club.
The Daily Mamaroneck will feature each of the Mamaroneck mentor-mentee pairs over the remainder of their apprenticeships.
