Historic House Spared As Larchmont Holds Fast To Tear-Down Ban

LARCHMONT, N.Y. – Larchmont has refused to lift a temporary ban on demolitions and subdivisions in the village, thwarting -- for now -- a developer’s plans for tearing down an historic home known as “The Orchard,” according to a report by lohud.com.

The Orchard, a beloved 1896 home on Ocean Avenue in Larchmont, is the center of a controversy over the village's six-month moratorium on tear-downs and subdivisions.

KOSL Building Group, which is based in Scarsdale, had sought a waiver to demolish the 1896 house and build four houses on the 68,000-square-foot lot, the lohud.com article said.

Preservationists in the tightknit community have risen up against the project, and KOSL is challenging the legality of the ban in state Supreme Court, according to past lohud reports.
