Breaking News: Westchester Man Charged With $150,000 Superstorm Sandy Scam

Hurricane Katia Projected to Spare Larchmont

LARCHMONT, N.Y. --  Hurricane Katia has been classified as a Category 3 hurricane by the National Weather Service but isn't expected to come ashore. However, the winds still have potential to create rough waves and affect certain areas of the eastern coast.

The storm's projected path does not hit the metropolitan area in the same way last week's Tropical Storm Irene did, so residents in Harrison should not expect similar effects.

Though Katia has weakened in the recent days, it is still creating winds up to 120 miles per hour as of Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service issed a flash flood watch for Southern Westchester Sept. 5 through Tuesday morning, which has been extended to 6 p.m.

Heavy rain is expected Tuesday with new rainfall amounts between a quarter of an inch and a half of an inch and wind between 11 and 13 miles per hour. A chance of showers and mild wind will remain in Larchmont through Thursday night. The forecast brightens up Friday with a high near 80 degrees.
