MAMARONECK, N.Y. Parking spots along Jefferson Avenue and in two adjacent lots will be temporarily eliminated during the Jefferson Avenue Bridge Replacement Project, which is expected to begin Monday in Mamaroneck.
The 10-month, $3.5 million project will begin demolishing the bridge and removing the deck. The foundation, along with the center support, will then be demolished and removed.
Consequently, the 36-space Jefferson Avenue commuter lot by Columbus Park will be closed along with 13 spaces in the larger Jefferson Avenue commuter lot. Another 15 metered spaces will be eliminated on Jefferson Avenue by the bridge over the Mamaroneck River. Based on the construction schedule, which may change, these parking spots will reopen in April.
The 64 spaces will be used for construction and staging of materials. Alternative temporary parking will be made available, including:
Long-term parking meter spaces on Van Ranst Avenue.
Any parking meter space on Jefferson Avenue between Van Ranst and Mamaroneck avenues.
Parking meter spaces on Halstead Avenue, on the railroad side of the street.
Permit holders cannot park at the meters at Station Plaza.
The next phase will be to place the concrete forms and provide for the foundation to be poured for the new bridge. Lastly, the new bridge will be delivered and put in place in sections by crane.
