RYE, N.Y. – Friends and family of missing Rye teen Pierce Crowley have taken social media by storm to help raise awareness and spread the word about the 15-year-old Iona Prep student's disappearance.
Since disappearing in White Plains on Friday a massive search and awareness campaign has been launched as volunteers from all over Westchester and beyond have helped search for Crowley.
On Sunday, a Facebook page entitled "Find Pierce Crowley" was created and in less than 48 hours has aggregated more than 3,500 page likes. Also launched over the weekend was a Twitter campaign with the hash tag "#findpierce" as friends implore celebrities to re-tweet links to Crowley's missing person information.
Earlier on Tuesday the campaign gained some traction as Kim Kardashian re-tweeted a link to Crowley's poster to her more than 14 million twitter followers. Other celebrities that have re-tweeted #findpierce include New Rochelle native and Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and musician Mike Posner.
As far as the search goes, White Plains Police Commissioner David Chong said on Tuesday that police are still following up on leads. Police said Monday that they are investigating Crowley’s disappearance as a missing-person report.
"We are still actively looking for him," Commissioner Chong said. "Again, we ask him to come in and we will get him any help he needs. He is not in any legal trouble, we just want to get him back with those who care for him. His parents are very worried."
