Larchmont Family Packs It All in on Columbus Day

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Alex and Matthew Tauber may have had the day off from school Monday for Columbus Day, but their mother Elissa had a full itinerary for them, highlighted by going down the slides at Harbor Island Park.

Before the Larchmont brothers could get to the park, however, they had to run errands with mom. "We've done lots of errands," Elissa said. "I dragged them everywhere I needed to go."

The Baby Boot Camper rewarded Alex, 6, and Matthew, 4, with a few slices from Sal's Pizzeria and a trip to Harbor Island. "It's nice just being outside," said Elissa, who planned on taking her kids biking through Larchmont later in the day.

The high on Columbus Day was 82 degrees. Tuesday's high is expected to be 75 degrees with winds between six and nine miles per hour. Tuesday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 58. A chance of rain is in the forecast through Friday night, and Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high near 66. The forecast for Sunday's high is 64.

"This is probably the last best day of the year," said Simo Ahman, who spent the day at Harbor Island Park with his son Ryan, 5.

Similarly, Lisa Flicker spent some quality time in the park with her daughter Molly, 7, and her friend, pushing them on the swings.

"We're enjoying some wonderful family time," Flicker said.
