LARCHMONT, N.Y. The Larchmont-Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force is looking for volunteers to help staff its food pantry this summer.
A lot of kids go away to camp, some people go on vacation and, in general, some of our regular volunteers are unavailable in the summer, said Medlina Lehman, president of the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force. But, we are still trying to feed the same amount of people.
The bi-weekly Tuesday evening shift helps pack up more than 350 bags of groceries for food pantry recipients. Adults and children over the age of 8, with permission from their parents, can volunteer to help pack groceries, but there is a specific need for individuals who can lift heavy grocery bags during the evening shifts as well as unload trucks on Tuesday mornings.
Its a no-brainer, said Lehman. People need food some people cant afford. It makes people feel good to know they are helping other people eat.
The food pantry feeds more than 650 families in Larchmont and Mamaroneck. The Larchmont-Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force is an all-volunteer run organization that is dedicated to assisting families living in the Larchmont-Mamaroneck community.
Its a tangible thing people can do for the community, said Lehman.
