Larchmont, Mamaroneck Escape Storm Without Damage

LARCHMONT, N.Y. – A severe thunderstorm passed through Larchmont and Mamaroneck without causing any major damage Thursday evening.

“We are happy, yeah,” said Kyla Elms, who works in Mamaroneck with her friend, Nina Lime. “I didn’t want any tornadoes.”

Just before the storm arrived, Village of Larchmont Mayor Anne McAndrews said she was confident that Westchester County's Department of County Emergency Services would handle any emergencies that occurred.

“I am pretty confident that things are being taken care of,” McAndrews said. “It’s one of those situations where they say, ‘Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.’”

Although the front of the storm passed through the area quickly without hail or high winds as predicted, severe lightning lingered in the area for more than an hour.

According to Con Edison, only about 45 people in Mamaroneck were without power after the storm.

“Each individual should be able to prepare their home and have an emergency kit,” said McAndrews. “We just hope that everyone does that and stays inside.”
