LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Mamaroneck's Frankie and Fanucci's Wood Oven Pizzeria may have been voted "Best New Restuarant" and "Best Pizza" by Westchester Magazine, but Kathryn McSherry always gets her pizza in Larchmont.
Although the Hommocks Middle School student will occassionally go to Nicky's Pizzeria with her mother Sheryl, her favorite place to grab a slice of pizza is Villa Maria. Not only does McSherry say she likes their pizza the best, their 50-seat capacity and friendly staff make it convenient for her to meet up with friends.
"The people there are the nicest, the pizza is delicious and, now, they have these individual whole wheat, thin crust personal pizzas," said Carol Miller, a Larchmont resident, who has enjoyed their pizza for over 20 years.
Miller's friend Ann Katzenstein respectfully disagreed, proclaiming Nicky's Pizzeria as the best. "Nicky has been serving my daughter for 21 years," said Katzenstein, whose daughter is 23.
Jackie Gilpin, who has lived in both Larchmont and Mamaroneck, also likes Nicky's Pizzeria, but had to go with her gut. "You have to go to Sal's Pizza for a sicilian," she said.
Steve Andrews, a 2007 graduate of Mamaroneck High School and Larchmont resident, couldn't help but agree. "Sals has good pizza, good prices and fast service," he said. "You have to go there for the sicilian."
