MAMARONECK, N.Y. - The heat wave will be sending temperatures into the 90s Wednesday and Thursday so how is Mamaroneck holding up to the severe heat?
Staff at the Sporttime summer camp, located in Harbor Island Park, walked campers to the park's spray pool to cool down.
"In weather like this, we try to do different water activities," said Summer Camp Director Saulo Gonzales. "We try to hydrate them all the time with water and fruits, and we make them take breaks every 25 minutes or so, just to drink."
Lisa Smith of Harrison likes to come down to Harbor Island with her grandson Shane, 4, to get him out of the house. Shane ran around the spray pool with enthusiasm.
The price is great and its safe for a child under 10. Its very clean, she said. I try to keep him active because its important that kids get away from the TV and get some exercise."
Though the beach isnt officially open yet, Priscilla Rivera of Yonkers was spending her day off with her two children in the water at Harbor Island.
It is really hot, and we didnt want to say home today, Rivera said.
Norma Agurto brought her son Eli, 4, to the spray pool. He ran around and played with Smiths grandson Shane in the water.
Its a nice day today to bring him over here, she said.
Harbor Island Beach officially opens on June 23. The fee is $5 for adults, $3 for children and free for children under age 6.
For town residents in need of cooling, for the next two days the Senior Center will be open until 7 p.m. or later if needed. The indoor pools will be open until 8:45 p.m. and the outdoor pools will be open until 8 p.m.
