LARCHMONT, N.Y. – The Palmer Streetscape Project will resume Monday after a three-week hiatus.

The $1.7 million project was suspended to allow the contractor, DeMarino Brothers, to submit additional documentation to the village engineer and counsel.

The project has been in the works since 2000 and will redevelop the area around the train station and down Palmer Avenue toward New Rochelle. New curbing, sidewalks, lamps, trees, trash cans and bicycle racks will be built along the corridor.

A federal grant pays up to $670,000 and a state Department of Transportation (DOT) grant pays $125,000 of the costs of the project.

Work will commence in the area between 1961 Palmer Avenue, Hunan of Larchmont, and 2005 Palmer Avenue, near PDQ Mail Plus. As a result, there will be no parking from the Clearview Cinema, on 1975 Palmer Ave., to the driveway west of PDQ Mail Plus while they work on that section of the street.

Tree trimming of limbs and branches will begin and traffic signage and barrels will be placed along that section of Palmer Avenue, according to the village.

Residents are asked to remove any outside tables, art work, personal planter boxes, or anything else from the sidewalk for the duration of this project.

The prevent further traffic constraints, contractors will forego work at or near the intersection of Palmer Avenue and Chatsworth Avenue because the Weaver Street Bridge is closing Monday for repairs by the DOT.

If you have questions or concerns while the work is in progress, email them to the village engineer.  engineer@villageoflarchmont.org.
