Larchmont Students Parade Halloween Costumes

LARCHMONT, N.Y. – Claire Gillsater helped her oldest daughter Lucia make her costume for Halloween, which she sported at Chatsworth Elementary School's annual Halloween Parade Monday.

Lucia, 6, and her younger sisters Rosalie, 4, and Allegra, 2, said they love Halloween and usually start planning the next year's costume the day after Halloween.

"My daughter couldn't find anything she liked, so she put it together herself," said Gillsater, a Larchmont resident.

Lucia, who decided to be a unicorn the day after last year's Halloween, used a party hat wrapped in tin foil for the horn, a scarf for the tail, and painted her face white, Gillsater said.

The most popular costume in this year's Halloween Parade was the ninja, said Jennifer Deans, whose son Gavin Zinghini, 10, played in the band instead of walking in the parade itself. Deans said the parade becomes optional after fourth grade.

Later in the day, however, Zinghini paraded around as Morph, a full-body spandex costume.

"It's a wonderful tradition," said Carey Federspiel, whose daughter Ella dressed as Princess Peach from the video game “Mario Cart.” She said, "It's probably the best day of the whole school year for them. They get to dress up twice."
