Larchmont's Sheldrake Environmental Center Honors 3

LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Sheldrake Environmental Center hosted its annual Party on the Pond fundraiser on June 12. Environmentalist Carol Casaza Herman, along with Maria Cisneros and Judith Weber, owners of Recologie Lifestyle Inc., were honored. The celebration, co-chaired by Jessica and Ben Meth and Wendy and Yale Zoland, took place near the pond at James G. Johnson Jr. Conservancy. SEC hosts educational programs and community events at the conservancy and maintains the property through volunteer workers. Holly Moskow, executive director, expressed the importance of honoring those who have worked to nurture the community and environment, and of bringing awareness to the SEC and its effort through events such as the Party on the Pond. “All too often, Sheldrake is referred to as a hidden gem, and events like these help to raise our visibility,” she said. Each year, this event helps the SEC to raise funds to utilize in expanding school programs and mounting new programs in the community. “With school budgets and municipal budgets dwindling, we rely more and more on individual donors, grants and income from events like Party on the Pond to support our continued operations,” Moskow explained. As for this year’s honorees, Moskow said, Herman has shown extreme dedication to the environment, locally and regionally. She works to ensure that future generations’ citizens and leaders will be educated about the environment and how to care for it, Moskow added. “Carol has had a tremendous impact on SEC through her years of board service, helping to institute good governance policies in addition to volunteering for local environmental initiatives and mentoring many individuals along the way,” she explained. Recologie Lifestyle Inc., according to Cisneros and Weber, was created due to the need for dining, education, shopping and more that can help the community become involved in global sustainability. The company sells products that will assist in that movement. “Maria and Judith, as partners at Recologie have helped raise awareness about responsible purchasing in their eco-conscious retail space,” Sheldrake board President Millie Magraw said.
