LARCHMONT, NY. -- After many obstacles, Willow Park Playground in Larchmont has started its renovation process. The playground, which was closed since destroyed by Superstorm Sandy, is set to start demolition.
All the existing playground equipment will be replaced, adding new playground surface material a new brick paver pathway.
Slated for small renovations in early in 2012, the hurricane left the park under many feet of water contaminating the area. The process was delayed until now and a full renovation entire playground was needed.
Local residents wanted to created community interest in contributing to a public-private collaboration and formed the Friends of Willow Park.
The newly formed organization wanted to raise $30,000 towards the playground renovation and achieved more than half their goal by June.
Collaboration between residents and playground professionals resulted in a new design for the playground, which will be under construction for the next several months.
