County Executive George Latimer signed a State of Emergency declaration for Westchester early Sunday evening as a result of power outages, impassable roads and other issues following Friday's Nor'easter.
Latimer signed the order at the county's Emergency Operations Center in Hawthorne.
The declaration allows for the county to streamline services and make direct emergency orders to ensure the storm recovery process goes as smoothly as possible.
"We intend to use this authority very lightly," Latimer said. "It is not our intent to try to rearrange things, but if our county commissioners approach us and say we need to take an action, we need to be able to take it swiftly and effectively."
Earlier in the day, Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a State of Emergency for Westchester and three other Hudson Valley counties: Putnam, Dutchess and Sullivan.
