Mamaroneck Carnival, Fireworks Draw a Crowd

Joe, Amanda, Alessia, and Gianna Valencia were just one of many families on hand Monday celebrating July 4 at the Mamaroneck Fire Department’s Carnival.

Last year’s festivities were rained out so the Mamaroneck family was happy to restart its long-running tradition.

“We come every year,” Joe said. “It’s about tradition.”

He called the fireworks on the Sound "one of the best kind of shows around.”

Alessia is fond of the Dracula Coaster, and snow cones, while Gianna favors the candy apples and the fireworks display.

“They make the loud sound,” Gianna said. “They’re pretty.”

The Mamaroneck Fire Department holds its  annual carnival over the seven days leading up to the annual fireworks display at Harbor Island Park.

An estimated 6,000 to 10,000 people attend the yearly event throughout the week leading up to Independence Day.

“We do it all week,” Fire Chief Robert Pecchia said. “The Fireworksare one of the biggest things.”
