MAMARONECK, N.Y. - With as much as a foot of snow expected to hit the region, officials in Mamaroneck have declared a snow emergency that will be effective as of 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to the New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the state is anticipating that between 16 and 20 inches of snow may fall in the lower Hudson Valley, with more than a foot coming to upstate New York. State police have cautioned that the storm may impact the region until Wednesday night, causing a combination of low visibility and slippery roadways, creating “treacherous travel conditions.”

Officials have asked that during the snow emergency, residents keep cars off of roadways whenever possible to facilitate street clearing efforts. Village offices and court have been canceled on Tuesday.

Garbage pickup originally scheduled for Tuesday will be picked up on Monday. Officials stated they will make a determination on Wednesday’s recycling pickup on Tuesday afternoon. Officials noted that plowing and snow blowing onto village streets is illegal, and that snow should be shoveled onto lawns and next to sidewalks.
