Mamaroneck Family Fun Night Embraces Great Weather

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – After hours of rain Sunday afternoon, Family Fun Night at Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck was saved by the sun.

“It didn’t rain on us and we got great weather,” said Mamaroneck Superintendent of Recreation Rosanne Saracino. “I’m really excited about this tonight.”

The first round of 23 kayakers set out for a guided tour around the harbor at 7 p.m. A second group followed at 7:45 p.m.

“The kids love it and it’s a great opportunity to introduce them to kayaking and it’s a wonderful experience,” said Kathleen Reale of Mamaroneck, who brought her three children down to the harbor for Family Fun Night.

Two campfires were started in fire pits on the beach. Children and adults alike were making s’mores and roasting marshmallows – an opportunity many Westchester residents do not have very often.

“It’s just wonderful that I can just walk down here and see liveliness,” said Joyce Marrone, who moved to Mamaroneck in 2007 from Long Island. “I used to go back to Long Island every weekend, but I am learning to stick around on the weekends more often because of events like this.”

Music from the 10-piece band, Reunion, could be heard across the park. Adults got up to dance on the beach where the band was playing.

“We lucked out with the weather and this is just another reason why people come to the village,” said Village Mayor Norman Rosenblum. “This is a great way, at no cost, to have a good time.”
