Mamaroneck Farmer's Market Open for Winter Season

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- The weather may be getting too cold for Larchmont's outdoor Farmer's Market, but residents passionate about fresh produce will be able to pick out their favorite foods at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church beginning Jan. 7, 2012.

The Mamaroneck Indoor Farmer's Market will be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through May 19. St. Thomas', on 168 W. Boston Post Road, is hosting it for a fourth season.

The vendors, curated by Community Vendors, will offer produce from greenhouse growing and cold storage, a time-honored art.

"We always appreciate the support of the Mamaroneck and Larchmont communities, especially in the winter," said Miriam Haas, founder of Community Markets. "Sometimes people don't know that there are great local foods to be had in the cold months."

Shoppers coming in from the cold can warm up with some coffee, which will be for sale in the venues seating area.

"The shoppers from the summer markets in Larchmont, New Rochelle, Pelham and Rye are loyal; they're our core shoppers," Haas said. "This market allows farmers and producers to connect with their customers all year."

One of the new vendors, American Pride Seafood, is excited about the opportunity to extend their business to the area. "We're bringing sea scallops, codfish, flounder and other catches from the East End of Long Island," said Glenn Bickelman, of American Pride Seafood. "All of our fish are sustainable, meaning we get them when the stocks are high and they're never depleted."
