MAMARONECK, N.Y. Both the Town and Village of Mamaroneck authorized the extension of their respective county snow and ice agreements.
Each year, Westchester County provides municipalities a lump sum to remove snow from and maintain state roads during the winter. This year, it will pay the village $18,778.20 for the 11.9 lane miles of state road in the Village of Mamaroneck. The county will pay the town $14,517.60 for the 9.2 lane miles of state road in the Town of Mamaroneck.
During winters when the cost of maintaining those roads exceeds the lump sum, the county makes an addendum payment to the municipality. The village is still waiting for that payment from the 2010-2011 winter season, which was hit hard by snow storms, said Dan Sarnoff, assistant village manager.
In the town, Council member Erni Odierna suggested offering the county to help maintain the road-side trimming when weeds become overgrown and obstruct views on those roads.
"If they're going to have to do it, they're going to have to spend money on it," Odierna said. "And if we're willing to do, it would probably be cost effective like the snow removal."
Town Administrator Stephen Altieri said he would look into the matter.
