MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Cal Shapiro has spent the last year touring the country as the front man for the up-and-coming band Timeflies, including a recent stop at his alma mater, Mamaroneck High School.
The 2006 alum returned to his old stomping grounds for the first time this February to perform with his band in the Post Road Gym.
"Since graduating from Mamaroneck High School in 2006, I've definitely gone a bit of a different route than I thought I would," said Shapiro, who participated in MHS's PACE program. "I did some performing arts when I was at Mamaroneck, but it wasn't until I got to Tufts that I realized I wanted to major in music."
Shapiro formed the self-described electro-hip-hop-dub-something band with Rob Resnick, his producer, while at Tufts University. The duo uses elements of pop, hip-hop, electro, funk, blues and rock. Their debut album, Scotch Tape , has been listed at #7 on iTunes, and their YouTube videos have over 10 million views.
"It doesn't feel like so long ago that I was hanging out in senior lot and running from Post to Palmer," Shapiro said.
On Feb. 4, Timeflies performed for MHS students, parents and alumni. Their concert was sponsored by the MHS Student Council and benefited the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Community Counseling Center .
Cal and Rob post a video to YouTube every Tuesday called Timeflies Tuesday .
