Stein, 58, along with Buffalo resident Eugene Fahey, 63, will fill the Court of Appeals' two vacancies. That will allow it to hear some cases the court had put off until the seats were filled, LoHud.com. said.

Stein has spent 17 years as a judge and has served as an associate justice of the Appellate Division's Albany department since 2008, LoHud.com reported.

Cuomo appointed Stein, a Democrat, back in October in favor of sitting Republican judge Victoria Graffeo, according to the Democrat and Chronicle

Stein's appointment was unanimously approved, LoHud.com said.
