The former sidewalks along Mamaroneck Avenue were damaged by tree roots. Workers were busy Thursday cutting and placing wood in anticipation of pouring concrete during milder days between Palmer and Halstead avenues.
Village Manager Richard Slingerland said the $125,000 project was initially delayed while locating the right source of trees.
"We had a difficult time finding the last group of trees – male Gingko trees," Slingerland said on Friday.
The cold weather has not slowed the installation of new sidewalks, "and actually we are on schedule to get the work done by the Thanksgiving holiday,'' Slingerland said.
The contracting company is utilizing cold-weather curing methods and concrete additives to ensure proper mix and set for the concrete to cure, he said.
The total cost of the project is estimated to be approximately $125,000 to $150,000, and that will have to be finalized by the time Mamaroneck completes the job, he said.
