MAMARONECK, N.Y. – The Orienta and Shore Acres neighborhoods have received an evacuation order with additional flooding of three-to-five feet, the Village of Mamaroneck announced.

The National Weather Service has a coastal flood warning in effect for Southern Westchester until 3 p.m., Tuesday, which it describes as historic and life threatening. High tide could bring six to 12-inch waves in communities bordering Long Island Sound.

“The destructive waves on top of the storm surge will cause overwashes and significant damage to coastal structures nearest to sea level,” according to the weather service.

A flood watch is in effect until Tuesday afternoon, as well as a high wind watch until 6 p.m., Tuesday, with winds of 35 to 45 miles per hour and gusts of up to 85 miles per hour.

A shelter has been opened at the Mamaroneck High School on 1000 W Boston Post Road.
