Mamaroneck Patrol Boats Save Sailors in Distress

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- While patrolling the waters of Harbor Island last week, police rescued six people on a rowboat who were blown out to the outer harbor by a strong current.

Police put them in their boat and took them to the beach dock, along with their boat. The parties, which included a lifeguard, were part of a beach program. Police told the director of that beach program the rowboat had a maximum capacity of four passengers and the boat was overloaded. The director said she was unaware and that it wouldn't happen again.

The following items were also reported in the Village of Mamaroneck Police blotter between Aug. 10 and Aug. 18.

Larceny : Police received a report Aug. 18 of someone taking $200 in cash from an unlocked locker while the victim was on the 100 Block of Palmer Avenue.

Arrest : Police charged a White Plains man, 55, with disorderly conduct Aug. 18 for screaming profanities on Grand Street. Police also found hydrocodone in his car and charged him with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Criminal Summons : Police charged a Mt. Vernon woman, 29, with fourth-degree stalking by phone and text message on Aug. 18. The victim lives in the Village of Mamaroneck and is 31 years old.

Accident Hit and Run : A 2003 Chevrolet was rear-ended Aug. 17 on Mamaroneck Avenue. The other vehicle drove away and no one was hurt.

Larceny : Police received a report of a hand-held computer device being taken from a delivery truck, which was parked and unoccupied on Phillips Park Road Aug. 17. The device was worth about $500.

Larceny : Police received a report Aug. 17 of hunting products worth about $6,000 being taken from a 2002 Dodge Pickup parked in a driveway on the 400 Block of Jefferson Avenue.

Property Missing : A refrigerator and tools were reported missing from a Second Street apartment Aug. 16.

Criminal Mischief : A 2010 Mercedes Benz and a 2002 Honda parked in a lot on W Boston Post Road were broken into on Aug 16. Nothing was reported stolen from the Honda, which had its rear-passenger window broken, but a passport was reported missing from the 2010 Mercedes, which had its front-passenger window broken.

Identity Theft : Police received a report of an unauthorized charge made to a Henry Avenue resident's credit card for $1,150 Aug. 15.

Larceny : A cell phone was taken from a business on the 100 Block of Palmer Avenue Aug. 12. The phone is worth about $500.

V and T Arrest : A Village of Mamaroneck man, 23, was charged with DWI after police stopped him on Frank Avenue for a traffic infraction Aug. 11.

Criminal Mischief : The passenger-side window of a 1996 Nissan was broken on 510 W Boston Post Rd. Aug. 11. It is unknown if anything was taken.

Arrest : A New York, N.Y. woman, 31, was charged Aug. 10 with third-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and fourth-degree attempted grand larceny for attempting to cash a fraudulent check of about $1,100.

Drunk Driver : A Harrison man, 22, was charged with a DWI after police stopped him at Harbor Island for a traffic infraction in the overnight hours of Aug. 10.
