Mamaroneck Residents Warned June Brings Hurricane Season

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- June 1 marked the beginning of the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season, which means residents should prepare for potential storms from now through Nov. 30.

The National Weather Service, Accuweather and other major regional weather forecasting agencies are calling for a below-normal hurricane season in the Atlantic this year, with 10 tropical storms, five hurricanes and two major hurricanes; however, residents should always take precautions throughout the entire season.

To assist with the preparation effort, visit the National Weather Service’s website for tools on how to prepare for a hurricane.

The village of Mamaroneck typically experiences potentially damaging flooding when 4–5 inches of rain falls within a 24-hour period, according to Village Manager Richard Slingerland. A total of 4.1 inches of rainfall was recorded during the storm of April 30-May 1, but there was little to no recordable damage in the village.
