MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Kathryn Sinsabaugh led Treyson Colons and the rest of the fifth-grade chamber orchestra in a performance of "Over the Rainbow" to begin the Mamaroneck Board of Education's meeting Tuesday night.
Parents can expect similar student involvement in future school board meetings this year, said director of public information Debbie Manetta.
Colons, whose parents Jim and Deana watched from the first row in the Mamaroneck High School's tiered classroom, was one of 16 students from both Central School and Mamaroneck Avenue School performing.
Sinsabaugh is the orchestra teacher for both elementary schools, and brings the two chamber orchestras together for performances.
"This is a great opportunity for these kids because they're from two different schools," said Dena Madden, music coordinator for the Mamaroneck school district. "It's great to have that crossover."
Recently, the orchestra performed at Memorial Park for the Town of Mamaroneck's 350th anniversary picnic celebration. Originally, they were supposed to perform from the grand stand, but couldn't fit all of their members and moved over to the park.
